Belgrade Stadiums - The Marakana stadium from the list Belgrade Stadiums is the most well known and famous stadium in Belgrade. Marakana stadium from the list Belgrade Stadiums, previously known as the Red Star Stadium, and between the people as Maralana, is the largest stadium in Serbia today with the name Rajko Mitić Stadium, after the first well-known football player and star Rajko Mitic. It is located in the suburb of Dedinje in the municipality of Stari Grad, and was built between 1960 and 1963 on the site of the old stadium of FC Yugoslavia. The Marakana stadium got its place on the list Belgrade Stadiums because of it's size and importance.
On 27th of December, 1959, Red Star played the last match on the FK Yugoslavia stadium. The first game played at the athletic and football stadium Maracana was against Rijeka football club, on 1th of September ,1963. From a capacity for 55,563 spectators at the match, on the still unfinished stands, 55,000 spectators closely followed the match. A record in visits was recorded in autumn 1963, during the derby with the Partizan football club when the match was watched by 74,000 spectators.
The first goal of the stadium Marakana in Belgrade was Trifun Mihajlovic, a first official major league goal was Vukoje from Rijeka.
The Red Star Stadium in Belgrade, Marakana, got his nickname after the famous Maracana stadium in Brazil. Due to its size and huge capacity the crowds called it after the, at that time, largest stadium Maracana in Brazil.
Within the stadium Marakana in Belgrade there is a central lodge named "Five Red Star's Stars" which is divided into five segments, and each of these segments is named after one of the legends of FC Red Star, Rajko Mitic, Dragoslav Sekularac, Dragan Džajić, Vladimir Petrović and Dragan Stojkovic Pixie.
