Sights Belgrade - Monument "The Victor" is one of the most famous symbols of our main work and one of the most visited attractions. It is located on the plateau of the Upper City of Belgrade Fortress which offers an amazing view of the mouth of the Sava and Danube. It was erected in 1928 to mark the 10th anniversary of the breakthrough of the Thessaloniki Front. The idea of one such monument came to light in 1912 after the victory in the First Balkan War as a symbol of the final victory and the end of Turkish rule.
The triumphant monument "The Victor" is the work of the master sculptor Ivan Meštrović. It is made of bronze with a hawk in his left hand and a lowered sword in his right hand. Falcon symbolizes constant readiness, and the sword represents victory over foreign powers. Interestingly, the "Victor" faces Austria-Hungary in the front and Istanbul in the back. The pedestal on which the statue stands is the work of top architect Petar Bajalović.
More than 5,000 people pass by the memorial every day. Interestingly, it can be seen that the statue is to blame when standing right next to it. It can be said that "Victor" is the most frequently photographed monument and certainly the most visited.
