Belgrade Attractions - Palace "Albania" stands as a reminder that you are entering Knez Mihailova Street and that you are near the Terazijska fountain. Built in 1939, it quickly became the first cloud tower in Belgrade, but also the tallest building in our country, the Balkans and Southeast Europe. With its 53 meters in height, it has 4 underground and 13 above ground floors. The origin story of this skyscraper is interesting.
The "Albania" Palace is named after the "Albania" tavern where it was built. The tavern is dated to 1860, a one-story building with a basement. One of the frequent guests of the tavern was Branislav Nusic. The courtyard with the tavern was shared by brandy, tobacco, fancy goods and watches. Nevertheless, all the buildings were demolished in 1936. Albania Palace is one of the most successful architectural and urban buildings in Belgrade at that time. Today it is a remarkable cultural monument.
