Belgrade Attractions - Ičko’s house from the list Belgrade Attractions was named after the eponymous rebel, diplomat and merchant Petar Ičko who after the introduction turkish administration had to cross to Zemun, Belgrade. The role of Petar Ičko in the preparation of the First Serbian Uprising in 1804 was important. He was a consul and tradesman intermediary for Zemun, Thessaloniki and other traders. From 1802 to 1803 he resided in Zemun, and the house from the list Belgrade Attractions where he stayed is one of the oldest preserved buildings as well as a testimony to the urban development of the old core of Zemun.
Ičko’s house was built in 1793 and consists of a basement, ground floor and first floor made of a high mansard roof. The whole house is in the classical style, with a dual purpose. The ground floor was home to the restaurant ”Marko Kraljevic“, and the first floor had residential purposes. Ičkova house used to have a yard which one could enter from the St. Sava street, and in it there were outbuildings, stables, warehouses, storage and other similar buildings.
Over time, the house was rebuilt and reconstructed, and a complete revitalization was done in the eighties. Today the house has absolutely all the qualities of a representative town house of the late eighteenth century, it is still operating and is home to a department store.
